Velvet takes a practical approach

It’s an age old dilemma, you’ve fallen in love with a velvet sofa but you’re worried it won’t fare well against the spills and thrills of busy family life. Once considered too delicate and impractical, velvet has had somewhat of a rebrand. It’s always been popular because it exudes luxury and feels super soft, but unlike other fabrics, synthetic velvet sofas have flat pile weaves that are tactile yet highly resistant to stains and dirt. As the material has no loose threads to snag, it’s ideal for people with pets or children and for sofas being placed in high traffic areas too.

Ricard Cornergroup Sofa, colour: 1 77176, Chrome Studs

The most attractive element to velvet is its look and inviting feel, but that doesn’t mean they won’t go the distance and stand the test of time. Whilst they do require a little more TLC than fabric or leather sofas to maintain their textured appearance, it’s nothing a weekly brush and vacuum with a special upholstery attachment won’t fix. From the curves of a contemporary shaped sofa to the classic clean lines of a Chesterfield style sofa, velvet is perfect for adding that grand finishing touch.

Ricard Wing Chair, colour: 1 77184, Chrome Studs

Chic, contemporary and dressed with luxurious Italian velvets, Ricard has a sophisticated glamour like nothing else. The collection is not only decadent and super soft; it’s practical and hard wearing too. Available in a range of neutral tones, the range is particularly stunning because the velvet texture gives the colour so much depth. Whilst the Superluxe foam seats only add to the deep seated comfort, Ricard maintains its glamorous demeanour with hand applied studs in gold or chrome. The selection of foot colours, sofa sizes and corner options accommodate all lifestyles from slick apartment living through to modern family life.

The detachable hand-turned legs with antique nickel castors are practical, hard-wearing and enable easy movement when needed. Available in mustard, grey and berry, it’s the perfect velvet Chesterfield sofa to add some colour for Spring.
