Create a statement in your hallway

The humble hallway, it’s often the part of the house that’s forgotten about, neglected or cluttered with the coat rack. Whilst we don’t spend much time there, it’s a space that greets us when we open the door and the last place we see before we leave, so making sure essentials are on hand and that it has the wow factor for guests is important. Just because your hallway is narrow, doesn’t mean it should be uninspiring. A geometric shaped mirror or a sleek console table can make all the difference. If you’re blessed with a wide hallway or extra space under the stairs, it’s ideal for clever storage or even a compact work area.

Creating a sense of space in the hallway is key to making the right first impression when guests arrive. Having coats and shoes on show isn’t for everybody so smart storage solutions can help you keep the clutter at bay whilst beautifully displaying any accessories. A glass console table like Kennford, with a slim bronze frame and sleek glass top, is the perfect place for a flower arrangement or displaying your family photos. For a rustic feel, the reclaimed timbers and natural distressed finish of Fontana add bounds of character with ample storage to keep shoes or everyday essentials behind closed doors. If your hallway is on the small side, a lamp table like Volta doubles up great as a telephone stand or to file your post. Unique in design, the angled tripod legs and gold accents also make a stylish statement.

Right: Abbey Accent Chair, colour: Latte

Amp up your hallway with a small accent chair that’s compact yet cosy. If the entrance is cold and uninviting, a chair can soften the space and provide a place for any colourful cushions or woolly throws. The graceful lines and sloping arms of Fitzroy are perfect for adding a level of sophistication and its art deco inspired design wouldn’t go amiss with some Victorian style floor tiles. Alternatively a leather tub chair like Abbey works wonders for making use of dead space. The sumptuous deep buttoned upholstery and neat hand tacked antique brass studding have the added snug factor for a classic country vibe perfect for any waiting guests.

Middle: Louis Silver Carved Mirror

Right: Durer Mirror

One thing we always strive for is a bright and airy home and a hallway with no windows is no exception. Enhance the feeling of space with a cleverly positioned mirror on one wall that’ll bounce light around and make the hallway feel larger. They also come in handy when doing last minute checks before leaving the house for work or the school run. For an industrial vibe the bronzed finish of Leon and Durer sit perfectly above an aged metal console table or a dark wooden sideboard. Whilst Leon’s window effect gives the illusion of light, Durer’s practical shelf is ideal for housing small plants or for filing your post. For a touch of glamour, Louis’ antique silver finish and intricately designed frame really make a statement if your hallway is looking a dull and bare.

Left: Colt Rug, 160 x 230cm, colour: CL18 Pyramid Mustard

Right: Quantum Rug, 120 x 170cm, colour: QU03 Snake

Hard-wearing flooring is always a good idea for a high traffic area like the hallway, but adding a durable rug softens your step and gives the opportunity to play around with colour. Colt’s bright geometric pattern is a contemporary interpretation of a classic original whereas Quantum has the wow factor of high-shine metallic materials, animal prints and a subtle shimmer effect. Whilst they both have excellent definition and texture, they’re crafted with Polypropylene and have low pile so they’re non-shredding and easy to clean for added practicality. If your hallway is spacious go large and fill the space for a bold look or create a runner effect with a smaller design that’d beautifully complement your flooring.
